Built for warm-weather nights when insects are the primary concern, the Outdoor Research Bug XT Bivy provides lightweight, highly breathable protection in a compact solo shelter.
The upper is constructed from No-See-Um polyester mesh, maximizing airflow while creating a barrier against mosquitoes, black flies, and other insects. Unlike a fully enclosed waterproof bivy, the open mesh construction allows excellent ventilation during hot and humid conditions.
A durable 40D polyester ripstop floor with PU coating provides waterproof protection from damp ground, while the seam-taped floor helps prevent moisture from entering your sleep system from below.
Updated for 2026, the Bug XT features a double aluminum pole design that creates additional structure and increases usable space around the head, shoulders, and sleeping area. This makes the bivy feel less restrictive while maintaining a lightweight and minimalist footprint.
A large side opening provides easy entry and exit, while two stake loops and the included aluminum stakes allow the shelter to be secured to the ground in uneven or breezy conditions.
At only 16.38 oz / 464 g, the Bug XT Bivy provides an excellent alternative to carrying a full tent when maximum airflow, insect protection, low weight, and packability are the priorities.
